Its been forever since I blogged too much has been happening, deets later.............. For now been on a Brownstone cruise all day.

Their music is on another level, though I was so young when I first heard them, but the memories are out of this world. Music caanot get better than the 90s good, pure and refreshing.

HAIR UPDATE

Am so happy I got inspired to do a post today, am gonna give an update on my hair.

So when I decided to go natural I honestly didn't envision any major issues (very naive I know!!!!) but I almost caved in this past week, so this is what happened................

First it started when I decided to wash my hair, my hair has grown about 1 inch since I last checked, see pic below:

I decided to start maintaining my hair on my own but I really hadn't done any major research on products to use and the entire process.

After washing and conditioning with the worst possible products I didn't even dry my hair properly I just went to bed.

When I woke up the next morning Alas!!!!! my hair was a huge mess, it was so hard I couldn't even put a comb though it and after struggling with the hair for about an hour I decided to go to the salon (the same stylist that almost destroyed my hair the last time), I left with a migraine and a deep sense of insecurity with regards to my decision to go natural.

After the ordeal at the salon I came to a silent decision to relax my hair or at least straighten it.

While having a chat with a friend, she suggested texturizing instead and prior to her telling me about it, I had never heard of a texturizer .

I don't know maybe it was plain naivety or ignorance but I honestly wasn't sure what I was expecting when I went to the store and when I saw what it looked like (exactly like a relaxer) something in my head just snapped.

I felt so disgusted with myself and remembered all the reasons why I wanted to go natural in the first place.

I decided to do some intensive research via the internet on the transitioning process. Below are a few things I wish I knew earlier about the entire process:

DO NOT FOR ANY REASON GO TO A SALON WERE THEY ARE IGNORANT ABOUT MANGING NATURAL HAIR: They would simply criticize you and make you feel less of a woman for making the decision to go natural.

HAIR STYLES WHILE TRANSITIONING: For those that would rather transition rather than chopping off the hair completely I would suggest: Weaves- this helped with respect to hair growth as the weaves protect your hair against heat. Braiding-braiding your hair consitently for at least the 1st year during your transition will also do as weaves above.
Remember though that during either of the processes above, you must get regular trims to allow for the natural growth while getting rid of the permed tips.

DEEP-CONDITIONING AND CO-WASHING IS A MUST: You need to understand that like any other part of your body your hair needs to be hydrated and moisturized as much as possible.

Deep-Conditioning: this is an intensive means of ensuring that moisture penetrates to the roots of your hair. You can decide to purchase products specifically for the purpose like ORGANICS OLIVE OIL DEEP CONDITIONER or you can mix one with this recipe.

Co-Washing: this is a must due to the fact that most shampoos contain sulphate (causes them to lather) which strips off the hair of moisture.During co-washing, shampoos don't exist and the only product used is a conditioner (VO5) which you use to wash and condition, rinse off with water once your done. While the conditioner is on your hair, you should section and comb your hair with a wide tooth comb.

SECTION YOUR HAIR: Ensure that whenever you want to do anything to your hair you must always section your hair, it helps with manageability.

AVOID DIRECT HEAT: While transitioning I would advice you avoid direct heat as much as possible .

Making the decision to go natural isn't an easy process trust me!!!! so ensure you have a support team, here are a couple of blogs I follow that always gives me that boost of confidence.

My transition seemed to be going on pretty smoothly and my new growth (natural) has almost outgrown all the permed tips and I am certain after a few more trims I should be completely natural.

Yesterday seemed like an exception though, because of the almost natural state of my hair, my regular stylist was so clueless as to how to manage my hair. She kept tugging, pulling and basically putting my head through hell so I decided to do some research on how to manage my hair throughout my transition and have decided except I wanna fix a weave I am now my own personalized hair stylist.

Did I mention I have become a Mixtress, started making homemade conditioning products to keep my hair soft and shiny, MoptopMaven inspired me to start mixing my own products and its been a very enlightening and exciting experience so far.

In other news, had a lunch today at the incredible PATTAYA; they make the best thai food in all of lagos and the prices are sooo freaking reasonable I totally recommend them.

I have mentioned Bez a couple of times on the blog, the first time I heard him perform was at Asa's concert earlier in the year.

His music is a breath of fresh air, Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its no news that I am a huge fan of the Soul genre and what is more interesting is that he is 100% Nigerian, he is a phenomenal performer and the ease with which he strokes his guitar is pure magic.

I am a huge critic of Nigerian music since most people tend to praise the mediocrity that drives the industry,but he alongside his video producer, Kemi Adetiba have been able to break the trend and its at times like this I am proud to say I am Nigerian.

Trust me its been on repeat all morning, and am anxiously anticipating the release of his album.

Ok so am sure everyone is aware of my ongoing journey towards going Au Naturel with my hair, so I decided to write a post on it but work made it almost impossible to post it.

Anyways long story short 234NEXT newspaper decided to pick up the post/article and put it in this Sunday's edition of Elan.

I honestly never thought of myself as a writer, though I have always been known as a strongly opinionated individual but this totally takes it to a new level all I can say is WOW!!!!!!

Will put the article up on the blog after it has been published, did I mention I'm going to have it framed LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways in other news the blog has been totally behind and I am soooooooo sorry about it, I know we keep using work as an excuse but we have both gotten to a new stage in our careers that it is getting harder to keep up, but be rest assured we are coming up with a better schedule.

And finally, I have a movie date this weekend to see IJE (did a post on it last year) so am overly excited.

Thanks for all the messages, email, sms and phone calls and prayers. May God bless you in ways you’ve never imagined and as I always say, may my greatest achievement be your least! I’m sure you know that I mean those words.

I was astounded to receive all the comments from readers of my “LOVE LETTER TO TARA”! At my last count, I had a total of 238 comments. That’s totally unprecedented for me!

I also had a lot of messages from the ladies who seemed awed by the fact that “a Nigerian man” had a romantic gene! The guys were shocked by my “lyrics” to Tara, (guys feel free to use any of those lines, lol!)

Quite a number of the ladies wanted to know how to find the right man for them as well, so this note is especially dedicated to every woman believing God for the right man.

Don’t worry guys, I’ll have one for you.

Ladies, why do you want to get married?

Is it because you’ve fantasized about the wedding day, or is it because your friends are getting married, or could it be pressure from family and friends who constantly remind you of the ticking of your biological clock? I assure you that those are all the wrong reasons to get married.
To many women fantasize about the WEDDING DAY, and don't prepare for the MARRIAGE.
The truth is, the marriage begins when the wedding ends.

So why then should you get married?

Forget the fairy tales, marriage is a covenant of two imperfect people coming together, committing their lives together forever, to create a union under God.

So what are the steps to getting the man of your dreams?

Step 1: Be the right woman:

What kind of wife would your dream husband be looking for?
Single ladies; please remember that as a woman thinks in her heart, so she “is”; not will be. Simply put, your thoughts, values, habits and words can tell any man, the kind of wife that you “are”, even though you are not married yet.

Step 2: Become a wife, while you’re waiting for a husband

Ladies, please recognize that “guys DATE chics and then go on to MARRY wives”. If the truth be told, there are too many Christian chics and too few Christian wives (or “wife material”) in Church today. Ask yourself, “am I a chic or a wife?” Who must I BE to attract who I WANT. Sweetheart, the man of your dreams isn’t hanging around in a bar or at a club, so what are you doing there?

Step 3: Who must be to attract who I want?

Write down the list of qualities that you want your husband to have. Now look at that list carefully. What have you written? God fearing, Intelligent, Good Communicator, Gainfully employed, Clean, Fun, has a car, apartment, has money etc.

Now, ask yourself, does your list consist more of “what he has” or “who he is”? If it’s driven by what he has, then, you may be driven by the external props and anybody can fake that. “Sharp” guys can borrow their friends’ cars, apartment, money etc, but the intangibles of “who he is” cannot be faked. Character, truth, integrity, passion can’t be faked.

If you want a God fearing man, are you God fearing? If you want an intelligent man, can you hold up your end of a conversation? You want a man who's gainfully employed, do you have a job?

When I began dating Tara, I was quick to inform her that I wasn’t looking for a girlfriend, but a wife. She thought that was the most unromantic thing I’d ever said, but she appreciated the fact that I was honest with her from the get go. Ladies, marry a man for “who he is”…even if the world hasn’t seen it yet; rather than for “what he has”, because what he has can be taken away from him, but who he is will be all that’s left.

When Tara and I began dating, I was living in a small “one room, room” where I had to share a communal toilet and bathroom with several families (one of my cooks used to be my neighbor). All my property (TV, electronics fridge, and other appliances) had been sown by instruction to build a campus ministry in OAU, Ife, called Eden. All I had left was a cane dustbin, a mattress and a carpet with a hole in the middle (which the bed thankfully covered).

But there was much more to me than what I didn’t seem to have. I was always talking about my vision, what our life would be, where I was taking her to and I was also TAKING ACTION STEPS to get us there. Ladies, beware of the man who only talks the talk, but doesn’t WALK THE WALK! He must have corresponding action with his words.

Sometime ago, about 3 years ago, Tara and I were invited to a TV interview, and the host asked me what was imperative for women to look for in a man. I remember saying. “Don’t marry a man for his “television”, marry a man who has vision and one day; his vision will put you on television”!

So ladies, please understand that there are 3 types of men:

1. The Scavenger: The scavenger is a man who capitalizes on a “dead” and “lifeless” woman. Scavengers look for women with low self – esteem, filled with pity and act like victims of life. These men prefer ladies with no inner strength that are always begging for sympathy or for someone, anyone to love them. Scavengers enjoy “no resistance” as they ravage their victims. If you’re like me, I enjoy watching Discovery Channel and Animal Planet on DSTV. I’ve discovered that in the animal kingdom, scavengers include animals like the hyena and the vulture. If you notice, these scavengers often look for the weak, sick or young, helpless animals that offer the least resistance.

Are you attracting scavengers? If you are, you need to shore up your self confidence and self esteem.

2. The Hunter: The hunter seeks to trap a luscious “game”, with the sole intention of devouring her; with only a remnant of a carcass. He looks for a beautiful intelligent woman, whom he considers to be a prize possession. This guy isn’t in the hunt, just to fulfill his desires, no, he’s after what hunters regard as “BIG GAME”. He’s looking for the “Big 5”. These are the 5 most difficult animals to catch on foot. The collection consists of the lion, the African elephant, the African Buffalo, the leopard and the rhinoceros, either the black rhinoceros or the white rhinoceros. The members of the big five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them.

He’s inspired by the thrill of the chase. The more she runs, the more enticing she becomes. He only wants her as a prize. When the hunter overcomes his quarry, the first thing he does is to decapitate it. Once beheaded, it is skinned and dried and then placed as a trophy on his wall to brag about. Does this sound familiar? The hunter finally gets the girl, eliminates her self esteem and causes her to be a shadow of herself. He kills her dreams, business ideas and her passion. Do you know any hunters? They’re only in for the kill!

3. The Gardener: Now, this is God’s intention for what a husband should be! This man sees his wife as a seed. He recognizes that a seed is a tree in disguise! His responsibility is to nurture and bring out the best from her. One of the things a gardener does is to create the right environment for the seed to grow.

He nurtures her in an environment of love and care. Next, after planting, he waters her. What that means is that he’s concerned about her dreams; he wants to know what makes her tick. He takes her dreams and gives them expression; he puts structure and substance to her ideas. When he talks about her dreams, he uses the plural of “we”. He takes personal responsibility for the accomplishment of her dreams. He also removes weeds around her. He gets rid of all negative associations that are around her.

Another thing the gardener does is to prune her. Pruning means to “cut back”. So he cuts back her excesses. It reminds me of those wall plants that grow so long, over other fences and eventually becomes a nuisance to everyone. Sometimes, cutting back is a painful process to the plant, but it is necessary for the plant to develop the tenacity for explosive growth. He cuts excessive, improper behavior, value systems and friendships. But this in all is done in love with the aim to make her better. He enlightens and encourages her to be all that she can be, to do all that she can do and to enjoy all that she can have.

The wife of a gardener is like the path of the righteous; she shines brighter and brighter. She never has a better last year. She’s always growing and glowing with new ideas, new projects and new levels. Her testimonies are full of promotion, profit and new experiences. Her life is every inch, the dream of other women.

Clearly, what all these 3 kinds of men seek in their dreams is as far apart as the east is from the west. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think God created man to be a hunter or scavenger. My Bible tells me in the Book of Genesis that the man God created and formed was assigned to tend the GARDEN of Eden. This tells me that the first man was clearly designed and wired to be a gardener and it was that man God thought shouldn’t be alone.

As far as I’m concerned, every hunter & scavenger deserves to be a bachelor until they change their values, desires and dreams. I certainly hope that I can speak for all gardeners in this article.

The evidence of a good gardener is his GARDEN. Take a look at my garden – TARA, and you can tell if I am a good gardener. And even though I know there’s great room for improving my gardening skills.

I hope this note helps you sort out the gardeners from the rest.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! her designs just keep evolving and I honestly don't know how she does it but she is good.Every time I pass her store in the palms I become a kid staring into a candy store ogling..................

When I saw these designs this morning I was like OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I so have to do a post on this, the clothes are so beautiful......................

The beauty in all these designs is simply the colors and how they seem to blend and mesh into themselves, which gives the clothes this very flowy, drapy look that is simply divine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YESI "Coronation" Album Launch Party

Newcomer rapper Yesi (aka Kabiyesi) recently had a launch party at Comix Club in New York City for his debut album, Coronation, which officially comes out on May 25th, and we were there!

The event was very well organized, and well attended, with a young diverse crowd. Chris Akinyemi, another upcoming nigerian artist opened the show with a few songs, playing the guitar.
Then YESI took the stage and commanded the crowd...nice energy, and the crowd was def feeling him.
There were also some free giveaways of mixtape CDs and YESI t-shirts...all in all, great way to spend a Saturday night in the city!

The album Coronation can be downloaded off iTunes, Amazon etc...so support Naija music :)

Cocktails and Dresses Update

So I was at Cocktails and Dresses yesterday, and honestly I was pleasantly surprised by the the event; it took place at Zamunda (formerly 007) and it was a mini-party which just happened to be a dress sale.

So the event was organised by 2 lovely young entrepreneurs Damola Araoye and Torera Majekodunmi; Damola already has an online store Shop Sugarr and they plan to make this a monthly event.

So I totally enjoyed the event because asides the shopping (dresses were very REASONABLE -- very!!!!!!!), it was a good way to catch up with friends and generally a good way to chill on a Sunday... Check out some of the pics from the event.

2010 COSTUME INSTITUTE GALA

Been so busy with work that I haven't had time to put this up, the event happened almost two weeks back but anyways these are our picks for the best dressed at the event.

Anne Wintour, Editor at large of Vogue hosted the event and dazzled in this Chanel ensemble.

SJP wowed everyone in her gold Harlston gown which was simply divine.

Nicole Ritchie has definitely evolved into a style goddess and is stunning in this Marc Jacobs creation.

This is one of my favourite looks, Kate Bosworth looks every bit like a Hollywood legend in this Valentino 20s inspired gown.

I was totally shocked to find out that Kerry Washington's gown was done by Gap, the colour against her skin tone is so gorgeous .

So for those of you that may not know her, Chanel Iman is a gorgeous highly successful model and she looked über-fierce in this Micheal Kors jumpsuit WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only someone as fierce as Andre Leon Talley can pull something like this off especially to the MET gala kudos man.................................. and no words for Whoopi Goldberg.................(this is in a bad way!!!!!!!!).

The simplicity in this gown is what I think I love most about this look on Jessica Alba and the gown is by Sophie Theallet for Gap gown.

So its not news that we at FrannySquared are HUGE fans of SATC and for those of you who aren't counting down the premiere is next week WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the best part of it is that there are going to be 2 fabulous events for the premiere right here in Lagos we are soooooo EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the organisers, the release will feature a special black tie cocktail couture event on the 27th, which has been tagged "AN INTIMATE NIGHT OUT WITH SEX AND THE CITY 2". The event will have an 80s theme and will showcase top Nigerian and international designers. CARL THOMAS (OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ** SWOONING**) will be performing alongside an array of Nigerian musicians. It will be followed by a release party on May 28th at GET Arena.

Wow!!!!!! it seems like forever since I last posted anything up on the blog trust me details of my MIA........ness will be spilled in another post.

So for like 2 months now True Love has been off the market, it seems it just disappeared into thin air and weirdly as it may sound I felt lost not having it there after almost 3 years of buying and subscribing to the magazine.

For me it was so much more than just a magazine, it was Inspiration, Fashion,Career, Motherhood (considering I don't have kids),the Segun Johnson articles, The restaurant reviews all wrapped up in a cute bow and served to me monthly.

So you can imagine my frustration when I couldn't get an explanation and though I tried severally to call and email their offices I didn't get any reply. Almost a week ago I stumbled upon a very depressing article about Condé Nast and other major publishing houses; Media24 (True Love W/A publisher) who are being affected strongly by the Economic meltdown and have had to close down a lot of their offices.

But Alas........ all isn't lost Bola Attah the editor of True Love W/A decided to relaunch a magazine she started almost a decade ago and hence the REBIRTH OF FLAIR. I am more than excited to see what it entails and I have no doubt that I will be subscribing yet again.

I go back to work tomorrow with ambivalent feelings no doubt after being ill for over a week....................... all I can say is I hope to have a wonderful week ahead.

THE LAGOS CARNIVAL 2010

First I apologise for posting this late but trust I had good reasons anyways back to the post, I was a bit skeptical about going for the carnival at first but my mom convinced me otherwise and I am very happy I attended.

For those that may not know Lagos has a long history of carnivals behind it, I remember the days of the West Indies/ Fanti Carnival (Mardi Gras of Lagos) organized by Brazilian immigrants who settled in Lagos which was always a colorful and fun event.

Trust Naija it didn't start till 1pm considering the event was scheduled for 10am, the parade passed through Ikoyi, Ozumba etc.before making its way to TBS, which was were I was and kicked off with the arrival of some of the participants on a customised double Decker bus.

The carnival was not just a parade but also a competition where various schools and institutions were awarded gifts based on their costumes and general creativity.

I would have to say I was presently surprised by the carnival but there is still room for improvement but alas it was FUN FUN FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I had an absolutely fabulous time.

Ok, so I am overly excited about the Lagos shoe sale happening on the 2nd of April, finally an answer to a shoe addict's craving.

For a while now I have been lamenting about how much I need shoe therapy, it just came at the right time and after speaking to the organisers I am more than convinced I want to be there.

The prices are supposed to range from =N=3,000 - =N=15,000 which isn't bad considering the Naija factor
and for me its the Steve Madden pair I have my eyes on, Check them out on Facebook .

I am definitely gonna be there so I will update the blog with pictures from the sale.

It takes a lot to get me excited about today's music but drake is definitely getting under my skin, he is on the play list CIAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SEVEN: Howard University's 7th Annual ASA Fashion Show

We recently attended the Howard University ASA Fashion Show in Washington DC.
This was their 7th Annual Fashion show, and was themed SEVEN: EXPERIENCE THE FORBIDDEN.

The show had 7 main scenes, each representing the 7 Deadly Sins: Greed, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, Lust, Pride, Sloth (but maybe not in that order...)

Each scene showcased exotic couture from one or more upcoming African and American designers - some of the designers featured in the show were AYA MORRISON swimwear, COTE MINOU, GLAMM FASHIONS, IDIA DESIGN, NOTE2SELF CLOTHING, and UREBOR FAUTORE by Fatima Ozoya.

Overall the show was fabulous and well put together by the Howard African Student Association - and in addition very creative (thoroughly enjoyed the scenes!)

There are times I am more than certain I was born in the wrong era with regards to music, don't get me wrong I listen to today's music like the next YOUNG person but it doesn't do anything for me.

I would rather listen to Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, James Dean, George Benson, Al Green ; men!!!!!!!!!! the list is endless, no matter what people say about today's music, to me it is barren.

Music of then had soul (yeah I know you have heard this before ) but it had life in it, maybe I am being a little melodramatic but you could feel the song's heartbeat while listening to it WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BARAZAHI: THE PERFECT URBAN ESCAPE

So I experienced a little bit of heaven this weekend at Barazahi, it was 5 1/2 hours of total spa indulgence.

The rustic decor and ethnic murals is the first thing that grabs your attention as it completely covers the entire layout of the spa.

The mani pedi was divine and I was told it was a special Thai treatment and though I was allergic to the herbs, my nails turned out FEROSH!!!!!!!!!!

I think one of the major highlights was the wine bath I had, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! royalty cannot even begin to describe how I felt while having it.

The point I think that made me give the spa 2 THUMBS UP was the massage and facial, it literally took me to another planet.

The masseuse I would say was gifted in the art of de-stressing the client and with the backdrop of soulful tunes, it was almost impossible not to loose yourself in moment.

Yes, their treatments may set you back a bit but trust me when I say it is definitely worth every single penny.

So I finally did the short hair, I don't think I have ever felt so freaking liberated and p.s. it wasn't the Rhianna type bobs but a very short pixie cut which I absolutely love.

Blame it on the hair but I have been feeling like a whole new person ever since and after reading this post http://www.innyvinny.com/2010/03/09/chopped/ it sort of confirmed how I felt.

Its so good to be your own person and define your style which is definitely my new motto,we are planning a major post so you should definitely watch out for that.

So I know everyone seems to have their opinion on Solange Knowles but i think people should give her a chance.

She is an absolutely phenomenal artist and there has been so much growth in her music with the release of the SOL- ANGEL AND THE HADLEY ST. DREAMS album.

Apart form her music, her style is very retro and I recently started following her blog which I "HEART".

Since work has been very "BUSY" I have had a couple of her songs on my play list

So I had a very eventful weekend if I do say so myself **Iblush** and the highlight was when I received Chimamanda Adichie's book THE THING AROUND YOUR NECK.

The book is flawless in its simplistic style of writing and the real life scenarios that ensures you loose yourself in the character's identity.

It is a collection of short stories that explores various situations in life from a Nigerian perspective while giving you the freedom to decide your own "HAPPY"ending.

The beauty of the book is in her style of writing, it takes you back to the days of Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka when emphasis was placed on the little details that captures the essence of the story.

There were a couple of stories that made an impression on me:

LAGOS BLACK HERITAGE FESTIVAL

For those that may not have heard or seen any of the posters around, the event to look forward to this year is definitely the LAGOS BLACK HERITAGE FESTIVAL (BADAGRY 2010).

Black heritage festivals have been hosted all over the world for several years, the festivals aim at embracing black culture, history, arts and music.

Ok so I have been following the event since last year and I am overly excited about it mainly because of the Music festival and according to the sponsors, the music which is the highlight of the event will feature a blend of musicians spanning across different genres.

There will also be a book exhibition where Nigerian authors can showcase their works, I hope Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will be there because I love her work immensely.

They constantly brace the covers of True love Magazine, Genevieve, Thisday shows amongst others.

Her style is very modern and extremely chic and personifies high fashion at its peak.

Her outfits focus on a signature piece which usually screams out class be it a classic Chanel purse, a gorgeous pair of Christian Louboutin shoes or simply an exquisite hair do.

She has been able to merge modern fashion with classic pieces which always produces a superb ensemble like the one above that screams JACKIE O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but in a modern sense.

She is not just a pretty face, but a strong and successful business woman who has been able to take modelling in Nigeria to the next level and was behind the ELITE MODEL LOOK NIGERIA event that was recently held in Lagos.

REVIEW : ICE CREAM FACTORY

So there is this ice cream place on 1613B Omega Bank Avenue, Off Adeola Hopewell Street -- ICE CREAM FACTORY -- been there a couple of times...

The place is really cool, serene and the ambience is very mellow which is a PLUS considering all the stress of Lagos and did I mention their ice-cream sends you on an orgasmic journey mmmmmhhhmmm !!!!! **GOOD STUFF**

For anyone who has been there and hasn't noticed, all the waiters and people that work there are guys but not just random guys...HOT GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very certain it was a very thought out plan and trust women now the place is always jam-packed.

Its one thing to go there for the ice cream, its another to go there to droool over the hot guys there, you guys should go there and judge yourselves.

So I have decided to do something different to my hair and I am thinking of something short and cute but I am uberly confused about what to do.

NYFW 2010: Deola Sagoe

I know we have been slacking on the NYFW posts, but forgive us...here's something for you guys...

One of my fave Nigerian fashion designers, Deola Sagoe, showed in the Fall New York Fashion Week!!!
AH-MAZING.
Her collection "Above The Fray" describes a person who is ahead of the game, a level above the rest, and I guess that describes her perfectly!

We stopped by her private viewing in New York at the Loft on Fifth to take a peek at the collection.

The details in the clothes are very well done and professional, and every outfit can be worn on and off the runway.
The recurring theme throughout the whole collection is the gold and black BOLD metallic look, which make the clothes wearable during the day, but also at night!

Didn't get a chance to talk to and congratulate the designer *sadface*...clearly she was busy with prospective business people.

The OVERSIZED / BOYFRIEND BLAZER look is so effortlessly chic it just sort of jazzes up your look regardless of what your wearing it with.

Totally drifting from the point................... there was this overly gorgeous studded jacket that Alicia Keys wore in her video (Try sleeping with a broken heart) it is soooooooooooooo GORGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also saw Letoya Lucket in the same jacket in her video(Regret)

The point isnt to see " who wore it better " but to appreciate the sheer perfection which is the jacket. So after googling for ages I finally discover it is a Balmain creation like duhhrrr!!!!!!! so if you wanna drool over more of their creations check out their site http://www.balmain.com/

Anyways back to the post, so the blazers are just totally IT rite now I am tryna get them in every color possible but I am on a major budget so we'll see how it goes.

REDISCOVERY: FASHION AND STYLE

So I have spent almost 3hours reading thru Karls's blog www.karlascloset.com and I come to the conclusion that I have literally forgotten where my priorities lie with regards to the blog.

Fashion has always been the ultimate in almost everything I have done, making money, relationships and loads of other stuff. Ok I have to say it takes a lot for me to be impressed by loads of things especially Nigerian music.

So when a good friend of mine suggested this video to me*rolling my eyes* I thought "ok anoda nigerian video **sigh!!!**" but to my pleasant surprise I would have to say that I was literrally blown away.

First by the lyrics, then by the artists who did the collaboration and considering that I am a major fan of the soul genre I was uberly excited about the track.

The video was immaculate(Kemi Adetiba's handiwork ) and the message behind it makes so much sense, it is a positive medium of selling the Anti-yahooyahoo message.

So they didnt start the show on time but trust me it was definitely worth the wait.

It started off with Bez; for those that dont know who bez is, he is a fast rising soul musician whose single Zuciya Daya has been making waves all around the music scene.I would say his music is a blend of soul with a splash of funk in it and his style is toooooooooooooo die 4.

Painting Hope...

As the year 2009 draws to a close, and we spend the holidays with our loved ones, partying and making merry, we need to remember to give to the less privileged as well, and the Power in Numbers (P.I.N) event was our way of giving back.

The event was organized by the Inspiring Actions Initiative and partner organizations AIPA (Against Illiteracy Poverty and AIDS)(http://www.aipanigeria.com/) and The Cougars (http://www.theredandgoldcougars.blogspot.com/) and was featured in HiMagazine and BellaNaija blog. The initiative involved painting and decorating all the classrooms at Hope Primary School in Ikoyi.

It began at 9am and lasted till late afternoon. Numerous young Nigerians were in attendance and helped with painting and decoration of the classrooms...

Ok so with all the hype about KFC, I finally went there yesterday and I was highly disappointed by the place.

The food is definitely not KFC, I am thinking the owners were able to get the franchise name but definitely not the secret recipe and for the record BEWARE!!!!! of their Fried rice it is awful.

I do have to say apart from the decor and the KFC signboard, it could just be another random place that serves chicken.

So tread carefully when you decide to go there!!!!!!

MOVIE REVIEW: IJE

We have seen a lot improvements in Nigerian movies this year and it seems they are really stepping up their game with releases like; FIGURINE, THROUGH THE GLASS.

Anyways IJE is a definite must-watch for 2010, it is a story of two sisters Chioma- Genenvive Nnaji and Anya-Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde

Chioma is against Anya's dreams of becoming a huge Hollywood movie star but she turns deaf ears and travels to live the AMERICAN DREAM.

10 years down the line, she is accused of killing her record producer husband and so Chioma travels to LA alongside a young lawyer to try and help her sister out

The movie isnt out (release date- MARCH 2010) yet but I am totally rooting for it, with 2 of NOLLYWOOD's hottest actresses I have no doubt it will be a must watch.

MOVIE REVIEW: FIGURINE ARAROMIRE

This is one of the best movies I have seen all year long.

The production, picture quality ,casting, imaging etc ................. was soo on point.

The storyline was just the height of it, it is a love triangle between 2 friends(ramsey nouah and kunle afolayan) and a girl (Tosin Sido), and how the disovery of a figurine (Araromire) changes their lives, I dont want to spoil it for you soo I am not goin to say much.

I have to say it has been a very long time that a movie; NIGERIAN MOVIE has given me so much suspense, drama and romance all wrapped up in one.

I really have to commend KUNLE AFOLAYAN for the movie it was definitely worth all the time and effort.

It is definitely a must see movie.

Despite the "doom and gloom" feel of the current state of our country - security issues, political struggles, negative global reputation (419, "Yahoozee" etc), and the daily grumbling of the common Nigerian man - we still have much to be thankful for. No life-claiming natural disasters till date. No terrorist groups crashing into buildings or bomb threats. Besides, our country is growing in other ways - we are becoming better known for our fashion (everybody wears Ankara now, lol) and more fashion designers emerge from Naija by the day, our musicians/artists are doing really well in expanding their fan base to not just Nigeria, but other countries as well, and Nollywood is...well, its Nollywood!

And where there is life, there is hope...

So be thankful...and be festive today! Buy yourself a cupcake, splurge a little, celebrate your country's anniversary of independence one way or another! I know I will...

So as you guys probably know [or don't know], the tents were up at Bryant Park last week as it was New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week! Models, model-wannabes, fashionistas and fauxshionistas alike littered Manhattan's streets from event to event...

For any Real Housewives of Atlanta fans out there, it was certainly interesting to hear that two of our favorites, Sheree Whitfield and Dwight "The Divo" Eubanks (honorary housewife) would be showing at Fashion Week...well, most especially She by Sheree...after her Season 1 fashion show debacle (this chick had a fashion show, with no fashion! There were no clothes to be shown whatsoever...l0l.)
